Invictus - The Unconquered

I just watched the show "Invictus". It is the story of how Nelson Mandella brought the whole South Africa together through winning the 1995 Rugby World Cup. I was very much inspired. Inspired by Mandella's forgiveness of the people who jailed him for 27 years. Inspired by his servant leadership. Inspired by his humility. Inspired by his determination to bring the country together.

I am inspired to lead my people in Providend to our Promised Land. Nelson's Mandella's favourite poem while in the jail is "Invictus". In Latin, it means unconquered. It tells of how we should remain steadfast and unconquered, no matter what difficulties we go through. The poem is appended below. I hope it encourages you, as much as it encourages me.

Invictus
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

- William Ernest Henley
